Osteopaths diagnose and treat abnormalities within the body structure such as muscle, tendons, ligaments, nerves and joints.
By correcting body mechanics (biomechanics) there is significant improvement in the function of the body which results in reduced or complete relief from symptoms such as pain, stiffness and fatigue.
Osteopaths not only treat the symptoms but are also interested in the cause of the symptoms. Once the cause has been identified the osteopath will give the patient advice in order to help prevent symptoms in the future.
Osteopathy can help with a wide range of conditions including:
- Back/neck pain
- Joint pain
- Sciatica (leg pain)
- Sports injuries
- Muscular pain
- Headache/ migraine
- Back pain in pregnancy
- Repetitive strain injuries
- Asthma
- Constipation
- Tennis elbow/ golfer elbow
- Frozen shoulder
- Jaw problems
Gentle manual techniques are used to ease pain, improve mobility/flexibility, reduce swelling, improve posture and promote self-healing.
If necessary, the osteopath may need to refer you for further investigation such as x-rays, scans, blood tests or even to another physician (orthopedic, physiotherapy, podiatric…)
